Antarctic Support Contractor (McMurdo / South Pole / Palmer)
KBR Mission Technology Solutions (prime contractor since June 2, 2026, replacing Leidos) and subcontractors including Gana-A'Yoo Services Corporation
Pays you
$648–$829/wk
Verified 2026-2027 season postings through subcontractor Gana-A'Yoo: Lead Janitor at McMurdo $648-$736 per week, Steward Coordinator (janitorial) $729-$829 per week. Non-lead entry roles (dining attendant, janitorial steward, general assistant) pay below this band. EVERYTHING IS COVERED AND NOTHING IS DEDUCTED — dorm berthing, all meals in the galley, laundry, and round-trip travel from the US gateway city (usually Christchurch, NZ) are provided by the contractor at no cost to the worker. There is essentially nothing to spend money on at McMurdo beyond the store and the bars. Long weeks (typically 54 hours, six days) with overtime included in the structure. A full October-January austral summer deployment of about 14 weeks at roughly $700/week is around $9,800 gross with zero living costs and zero travel costs — close to a 100% savings rate, which is the highest of any option in this tier.
$0–$1,000 upfront to start
Entry-level support roles — dining attendant, janitorial steward, general assistant — on the US Antarctic Program's austral summer deployment, roughly October to January. Housing, all meals, and travel from the US gateway are fully covered, so the paycheck is almost entirely savings.

Deployment runs roughly October to January (2026-2027 postings specified October 2026 to January 2027). Hiring and PQ processing start very early — postings typically go up in the northern spring and summer (roughly April-August) for an October deployment, because clearance and medical qualification take months.
