Boren Awards (Boren Scholarship and Boren Fellowship)

$8,000–$30,000 total

Scholarship (undergrad): $8,000 for an 8-11 week summer program (STEM majors only), $12,500 for 12-24 weeks, $25,000 for 25-52 weeks. Fellowship (grad): $12,500 for 12-24 weeks, $25,000 for 25-52 weeks, plus optionally up to $12,000 for domestic summer intensive language study, to a combined maximum of $30,000. Funds are designed to cover the majority of overseas expenses — this is cost coverage, not income. Amounts from secondary sources; verify on borenawards.org.

Funds intensive overseas language study in world regions critical to US national security, for undergraduates (Boren Scholarship) and graduate students (Boren Fellowship). Awards cover overseas program costs and carry a binding federal service requirement afterward.
